Reddit: How common is it in your country NOT to have travelled abroad?

Americans are usually shocked to see how easy it is in Europe to travel to a foreign country, and how you can travel entirely through a country in a few hours.

But I just realised I never left Spain until I was 21 (and then again I went to Gibraltar). I suppose this is one of the downsides of living in the second largest country in the EU, only behind France. A Coruña and Murcia are at a bigger distance than Maastricht and Milan (and that travel would take you between 7 countries if you wanted to!). Plus being larger simply means there's a greater amount of stuff to see within the country.

Nevertheless, I realise I'm on the minority in this regard. France and Portugal aren't really that far away for most people, plus cheap flights can realistically make anybody able to travel somewhere in Europe if they wanted. So, how surprised would you be if someone from your country told you they never went abroad?

edit: fixed some engrish.

Austria-Hungary, Yugoslavia, Nazi German occupation (was croatia annexed or was it simply occupied? does it count in that case? we'll say yes) and well Yugoslavia again and then Croatia, correct?

Thats five, so, Austria-Hungary is probably out. Kingdom of Yugoslavia, NDH, SFR Yugoslavia, Croatia.

Edit: Although, you had FPR Yugoslavia before it was renamed as SFR Yugoslavia, so, maybe no to NDH also

Edit2: to answer your question NDH was a puppet nazi state, I hope most Croats would agree, not the proudest moment in Croatian history

FPR Yugoslavia seemed too much to count.. Kingdom and Communist Yugoslavia on the other hand were proper different countries, I think we can agree to that..

edit: nice try btw..

edit2: NDH was not my country, period. Literally, we were sold to Hungary, so you can guess what I think of it..

Like the guy said, I'm from Međimurje.. Nhf with Hungary, but it is a ethnically Croatian part, so being let go to you by NDH doesnt make me think better of those nazi losers..

Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Nazi Hungary, Communist SFR Yugoslavia and Croatia.. The border with Slovenia she crossed regularly, but it was the same state. When Croatia and Slovenia got independence, she was to old so I don't remember her ever crossing it...

I mean, I was born in what is no longer part of my country, and in theory, I've lived in 4 different countries, without having moved (SFRY, FRY, State union of Serbia and Montenegro, Montenegro).
