英国广播公司（BBC）及《曼彻斯特晚报》（Manchester Evening News）等传媒报道，阿万蒂西海岸表示，事发于3日早上6时10分，涉事列车原定由苏格兰格拉斯哥前往伦敦尤斯顿站（Euston），但驶至Penrith及Oxenholme之间时，于Shap出轨。

当局已派员到场，阿万蒂西海岸称正协助救援人员将乘客安全带离现场。受到事件影响，普雷斯顿以北的路段受阻，民众当天应避免前往普雷斯顿以北地区，该公司同时警告列车服务可能在未来数天都会严重受影响，而普雷斯顿至卡莱尔（Carlisle）的服务则由接驳巴士代替。

艾凯迪表示已经接获通报，称政府正致力安排受影响乘客下车，同时与铁路公司及火车意外调查部门保持接触。
