实验室简介:
实验室致力于建立力学,材料,以及生物技术的跨学科研究团队,开发高性能、生物集成、与生物交互的软材料与器件。我们的研究涵盖多尺度材料设计工程,包括分子工程(molecular engineering),高分子性能与构型(polymer functions and architectures),拓扑结构(network topologies),以及多材料宏观组装(multi-material integration)对软材料性能与生物交互功能进行精准调控。我们特别关注软材料的非线性力学
行为(nonlinear mechanics),断裂
(fracture),疲劳

杨加伟 (Jiawei Yang) 将于2024年1月加入伍斯特理工学院机械与材料工程系、生物工程系担任助理教授。杨加伟于2019年在哈佛大学机械工程与材料科学获得博士学位,师从力学领域权威、美国两院院士锁志刚教授 (Zhigang Suo),从事软材料的断裂,疲劳,失稳,与粘接的研究。2019年秋季至今以博士后/研究科学家在麻省理工学院、波士顿儿童医院Prof. Daniel Anderson与美国四院院士Prof. Robert Langer的生物工程实验室从事可植入生物材料于器件的研究开发。研究成果先后发表于Science, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, JMPS等国际顶级期刊发表学术论文25篇,其中一作/共一11篇,专利2项。详情请参考https://labs.childrenshospital.org/jiaweiyang/publications

Two fully funded PhD/Postdoc positions in mechanics of soft materials and soft materials for health at Worcester Polytechnic Institute

The Jiawei Yang lab in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute has two fully funded PhD/Postdoc positions, starting in Fall 2024 or on a mutually agreed date. We aim to build an interdisciplinary research team, focusing on the Multiscale Engineering of Soft Material Systems, and developing high-performance, bio-integrated, and bio-interfacing soft material systems for health. We also have a broad collaboration network throughout the Boston area, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).
Position details.
The positions focus on the following two research directions:
Mechanics of soft materials. The candidate will work on the fundamental understanding of nonlinear mechanics, adhesion, fracture, and fatigue of soft materials and structures, and use the understanding to develop soft materials of exceptional properties.
Soft materials for health. The candidate will develop soft material systems to interface with biological systems. Topics are included but not limited to tissue mimicry and integration, implantation, and drug delivery.
Qualification and how to apply.
We welcome motivated students/postdocs with degrees from relevant disciplines such as mechanical engineering, materials science, polymer science, and biomedical engineering to join our lab. Graduate candidates should hold bachelor’s or master’s degrees and postdoc candidates should hold PhD degrees. Postdoc candidates should additionally demonstrate a strong track record of research experience and publications. About Dr. Jiawei Yang.
Jiawei Yang will join the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at WPI in January 2024. He is currently a research fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston Children’s Hospital. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University with Prof. Zhigang Suo. His research focuses on soft material systems, including design, engineering, mechanics, and biotechnology.
